The Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) has established the following technical specifications for the Kho Kho playing arena to ensure high-quality and standardized facilities for players across tournaments. These specifications detail the mat requirements for the arena, ensuring both safety and performance in the game.
1. Kho Kho Arena Specifications
- Arena Size: The recommended arena dimensions are 30 meters in length and 20 meters in width. To cover this area, a total of 600 mats are required.
2. Mat Specifications
- Mat Size: Each mat should measure 1 meter by 1 meter, making them easy to install, remove, and maintain.
- Density: Mats should have a density of 130-140 kg per cubic meter, offering adequate support and durability for active gameplay.
- Hardness: The mats should have a hardness of 35-40 degrees on the Shore A scale, which ensures a balance between cushioning and firmness to withstand the physical demands of the sport.
- Thickness: The thickness of the mat varies based on the category—sub-junior, junior, or senior—with a range of 25-50 mm. Thickness requirements are subject to approval by KKFI based on safety and performance standards.
- Quality Grade: Premium Plus quality is recommended for durability and resilience in competitive play.
- Raw Material: Mats should be manufactured using “Reva-R” raw material, a high-quality, durable option suitable for long-term use.
3. Aesthetic and Functional Features
- Color and Texture: The surface color of the mat may vary to suit both indoor and outdoor settings, providing a visually appealing and cohesive look to the playing arena. Multi-color options are permissible, creating an attractive and functional playing surface.
- Texture: The mat’s texture is recommended to be “Quatre Pillars,” providing sufficient grip for players while maintaining comfort.
4. Approval and Compliance
The KKFI holds the authority to alter these specifications as necessary for any tournament or championship. Only Indian manufacturers are approved for producing Kho Kho mats, as KKFI supports the “Make in India” initiative. The brand “Gravolite” is currently approved for providing mats that meet these specifications.
These guidelines ensure that players have a safe, standardized, and high-performance playing surface, supporting both local manufacturing and excellence in sports infrastructure.
