11-10-2024; As per news update, India- India is set to host the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup in 2025, marking a historic moment for the sport. The event will bring together 24 countries from six continents, with 16 men’s and 16 women’s teams competing in a week-long tournament.
Kho Kho, a sport deeply rooted in Indian tradition, has grown from humble beginnings in the mud to a mat-based global spectacle, now played in 54 countries. This World Cup aims to highlight both the rich cultural heritage and the intense competitive spirit of the game.
In the lead-up to the tournament, the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) has ambitious plans to popularize the sport. The federation will introduce Kho Kho to 200 elite schools across 10 cities, aiming to spark interest among young players. Additionally, a membership drive hopes to register at least 50 lakh school students as part of the promotion effort.
Shri Sudhanshu Mittal, president of KKFI, expressed excitement about the event, stating, “We are incredibly excited to host the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup. This tournament is not just about competition; it’s about bringing nations together, promoting cultural exchange, and showcasing the beauty and intensity of Kho Kho to the world. Our ultimate goal is to see Kho Kho recognized as an Olympic sport by 2032, and this World Cup is the first step towards that dream.”
With global participation and a grand platform, the 2025 Kho Kho World Cup promises to be a landmark event, bringing international attention to a traditional Indian sport and pushing it towards Olympic recognition.
