News room, 02-09-2024; As per news update – The 42nd Jammu District Kho Kho Championship concluded with resounding success, crowning the NIS Club Boys and Parivartan Club Girls as champions. The two-day event, held at Green Field Play Ground No. 1 in Gandhinagar, saw the participation of over 200 players under 18 years of age, competing fiercely in both male and female categories.
Organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Kho Kho Association in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, the championship garnered attention from across the sporting community in the region. The closing ceremony was a grand affair, presided over by Sh. Rajeev Sharma, a respected member of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council. The event was graced by distinguished guests including S. Bhupinder Singh Thirti, founder of the Jammu and Kashmir Kho Kho Association (JKKKA), Dr. Manmeet Singh, former president of the association, Sh. Kuldeep Gupta, General Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Kabbadi Association, Sh. Baljinder Pal Singh, District Sports Officer of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, and Smt. Harvinder Kour, also a District Sports Officer with the council.
In his address, Sh. Rajeev Sharma congratulated the champions and expressed his delight at the high level of participation. He emphasized the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council’s commitment, under the leadership of Secretary Madam Nuzhat Gul, to promoting traditional Indian games like Kho Kho and Kabbadi in the region. He also assured the Kho Kho Association of the permanent allotment of a dedicated ground near Government High School Boys Gandhinagar for regular practice and future tournaments.
Dr. Baljinder Kour, the first female president of the Jammu and Kashmir Kho Kho Association, was lauded for her exemplary leadership in organizing the championship. The contributions of S. B. S. Thirti and former president Dr. Manmeet Singh were also acknowledged for their roles in establishing the association and nurturing national and international Kho Kho players who have brought honor to both the state and the country.
The ceremony witnessed the presentation of mementoes, trophies, medals, and certificates to the guests of honor, winners, participants, coaches, and officials by the Chief Guest. In a special gesture, Sh. Rajeev Sharma was honored by Dr. Baljinder Kour for his unwavering support and contributions to the sport.
Prominent figures in the local sports community, including Ajay Gupta (Coach Kho Kho Kabaddi), Anil Sharma (Manager JK Sports Council), Gagan Kumar (Coach Football), and Pankaj Malhotra (Senior Kho Kho player and Treasurer of the Kho Kho Association), were also present, adding to the event’s significance. The ceremony concluded with the proceedings being expertly conducted by S. Amrinder Pal Singh, General Secretary, and Mrs. Tarmeet Raina, Joint Secretary of the Kho Kho Association.
The 42nd Jammu District Kho Kho Championship not only showcased the talents of young players but also reaffirmed the region’s dedication to preserving and promoting traditional sports like Kho Kho.
