Income Tax Officer and Kho Kho Star Priyanka Ingle Gears Up to Represent India in First-Ever Kho Kho World Cup

Mumbai, November 11 – Maharashtra’s Priyanka Ingle, a dedicated Income Tax Department employee and a formidable all-rounder in Kho Kho, is preparing to represent India in the upcoming Kho Kho World Cup. Scheduled for January next year, this historic event will be the sport’s first World Cup, set to take place in India. As 25 nations prepare to compete, the tournament is poised to bring unprecedented visibility to the sport.

Hailing from Pune, Priyanka Ingle has been committed to Kho Kho for over 15 years, tracing her passion back to her school days. “I come from Pune, Maharashtra. I stay with my parents and a younger brother. My parents are farmers. I started playing Kho Kho in Class V, inspired by watching girls at my school practice with my coach,” she shared. With her exceptional performance since childhood, Priyanka has made her mark early on. By Standard VII, she was competing in Nationals and has now played in 23 of them. Among her many accolades are the Ila Award, which she received in Standard VIII as the best girl player in the sub-junior national competition, and the Rani Laxmi Bai Award in the 2022 Senior Nationals. Last year, Priyanka also represented India at the 4th Asian Kho Kho Championship in Assam, where her team secured gold.

Throughout her journey, Priyanka faced initial challenges, but the Maharashtra Kho Kho Association and her coach provided support. “Initially, I faced a bit of a challenge, but my sir made my parents understand that I had the talent and could do well in the sport,” she said, expressing gratitude for her coach’s guidance. Now a graduate with an M.Com degree, Priyanka balances her career in the Income Tax Department in Mumbai with her passion for Kho Kho.

Excited to don the India jersey in the World Cup, Priyanka believes this global event will be transformative. “The World Cup in India is going to be crucial for making the sport more popular. With 25 countries participating, we’ll gain huge exposure and inspire more players,” she remarked.

A firm believer in fitness, Priyanka follows a rigorous routine, balancing gym workouts when off-tournament and scheduled fitness sessions during competitions. She also expressed gratitude for the support from the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) and MYAS, and praised the Sports Science app, which is helping athletes enhance their fitness and performance. “The Sports Science app is excellent for understanding our stamina, fitness, and strength. I really want to thank all KKFI members and MYAS for their continuous support for Kho Kho,” she concluded.

As Priyanka gears up for the Kho Kho World Cup, she carries not only the hopes of Maharashtra but also the pride of the nation, eager to showcase her talent and contribute to the growth of Kho Kho on the global stage.
